Using Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), how do I connect to the IU Secure wireless network?

Note: Follow the extended instructions only if you cannot successfully connect to the IU Secure SSID with AirPort using the basic instructions, or if you want to configure your Mac while outside the IU Secure service area.
Basic instructions
- From the AirPort menu, select
IU Secure.
- When prompted, enter your IU Network ID.
- When prompted to verify the certificate, click
Show Certificateand verify that:
- The certificate is signed by Thawte Premium Server CA.
- The certificate name is
net-auth-1.noc.iu.edu.
- Check the box next to
Always trust "net-auth-1.noc.edu"and clickContinue.
Note: Due to a bug in Leopard, you may be prompted to verify the certificate more than once. You should not have to verify the certificate more than twice.
- You should now be connected to the IU Secure SSID; if you are
prompted for your credentials again, enter your IU Network
ID.
- From the AirPort menu, select
Open Network Preferences....
- Click
Advanced..., and click the802.1Xtab in the resulting window.
- From the menu next to "Domain:", choose
User.
- In the list on the left, click
WPA: IU Secure.
- In the list next to "Authentication:", uncheck the boxes next to
TTLSandEAP-FAST.
- Remove the stored password from the "Password:" field. Click
OK, and then close theNetworkwindow.
Extended instructions
- From the AirPort menu, select
Open Network Preferences....
- On the left side of the
Networkwindow, clickAirPort. In the bottom-right corner, clickAdvanced....
- Click the
802.1Xtab in the resulting window.
- From the menu next to "Domain:", select
User.
- In the lower-left corner of the window, click the
+(plus sign).
- Enter
WPA: IU Secureas the name for the new configuration.
- In the "User Name:" field, enter your IU Network ID
username. Leave "Password:" field blank.
- In the "Wireless Network:" field, enter
IU Secure.
- In the list to the right of "Authentication:", uncheck the boxes
next to
TTLSandEAP-FAST, leaving onlyPEAPchecked.Note: Do not configure PEAP with an outer identity.
- Click
OK, and then in theNetworkwindow, with AirPort still selected, clickAdvanced....
- Click the
AirPorttab in the resulting window, and then in the list under "Preferred Networks:", double-clickIU Secure.Note: If you are configuring your Mac while outside the IU Secure service area:
- Below the "Preferred Networks:" list, click
+(plus sign). - Next to "Network Name:", enter
IU Secure. - Click
Add, and then continue with step 12.
- Below the "Preferred Networks:" list, click
- From the menu next to "Security:", choose
WPA2 Enterprise.
- Verify that your IU Network ID username is listed next to "User
Name:", and that
WPA: IU Secureis selected from the menu next to "802.1X:".
- Click
Add, clickOK, and then clickApply.
- When you first connect to the IU Secure SSID, you will be
prompted to accept the server's certificate. Click
Show Certificate, and verify that:
- The certificate is signed by Thawte Premium Server CA.
- The certificate name is
net-auth-1.noc.iu.edu.
- Check the box next to
Always trust "net-auth-1.noc.edu"and clickContinue.Note: Due to a bug in Leopard, you may be prompted to verify the certificate more than once. You should not have to verify the certificate more than twice.
- You should now be connected to the IU Secure SSID; if you are prompted for your credentials again, enter your IU Network ID.
