In Mac OS X, if I have a VPN connection over the wireless network at a regional campus, why can I still not access IU sites?

If you are having difficulties connecting to Indiana University sites even after making a VPN connection on the wireless network at a regional campus, you may need to adjust your settings. The first thing to try is to clear your browser's cache; see How do I clear my web browser's cache and cookies? If the problem persists, adjust your VPN settings so that all network traffic is routed through your VPN connection. Follow the appropriate instructions below.

Mac OS X 10.5.x (Leopard)

  1. If your VPN connection is active, disconnect it. Then from the Apple menu, select System Preferences... .

  2. In System Preferences, from the View menu, select Network.

  3. On the left side of the "Network preference" pane, click the interface representing your VPN settings. VPN settings are represented with a padlock icon to the right.

Note: If the padlock in the bottom left of the preference window is closed, click it, and then authenticate for an administrator account on your Mac.

  4. Click Advanced... . In the sheet that appears, under the Options tab, check Send all traffic over VPN connection. Click OK, and then Apply.

Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger)

  1. If your VPN connection is active, disconnect it.

  2. From your Applications folder, open Internet Connect. In the Internet Connect window, click the icon representing your VPN setting. It should be represented with a padlock icon.

  3. From the Connect menu, select Options... . In the sheet that appears, in the "Session Options:" section, check Send all traffic over VPN connection. Click OK.
