ARCHIVED: How does combining course sections affect privacy status for participants in Oncourse CL course sites?
For newly combined course sections in Oncourse CL, the initial privacy status for instructors and all students is brought forward from the original course section. If the initial privacy status is set to hidden, instructors will be able to see their students, but students will not see their instructors or other students.
Note: An update to Oncourse CL following the end of the summer 2007 semester caused the initial privacy status for all combined courses to be set to hidden. An update for the spring 2008 semester has changed this behavior so that the privacy status is brought forward from the original course section. However, at IU Bloomington, all course participants in every section are originally hidden by default.
For students
With privacy status set to hidden, a student cannot communicate
with classmates individually. You can change your privacy to visible
when you enter a course site for the first time. Also, you
can change your privacy status to visible for all your courses from
your My Workspace tab (click Privacy Status, and
then choose to make yourself visible in all sites). For more
information, see Changing your privacy status.
For instructors
Instructors who combine two or more course sections into one new course immediately receive notification that they are hidden, and can quickly change to visible at that time. For information about combining course sites, see Combining course sites into a single parent site.
Note: In the Roster tool, the privacy status for each participant is indicated by an icon next to the participant's name; see Roster: Overview.
