Oncourse CL Site Stats: Overview

What it does

Site Stats is a tool for showing statistics by user, event, or resource. A site owner can use Site Setup to add Site Stats to a course or project site. The Site Stats tool is only accessible to the site owner and assistants; students cannot see Site Stats.

Key concepts

Overview page: Click Overview to view a chart that can display weekly, monthly, or yearly activity for your site. You'll also see totals and averages for visits, unique visits, and overall site activity.

Note: The "unique visits" statistic counts the number of distinct individuals who have visited the site. (I.e., each user who visits the site counts once, and only once, in the number of unique visits.) It does not supply information about the number of visits per individual or the number of tabs that users have visited.

Events page: Click Events to view site events by participant. You can filter results by time period and/or groups, and sort by user ID, name, event, most recent date, and total. You can export data to a Microsoft Excel (.xls) or comma-delimited (.csv) file.

Resources page: Click Resources to see which resources have been accessed by each participant. You can filter results by time period and/or groups, and sort by user ID, name, resource, most recent date, action, and total.

Preferences page: Click Preferences to select which events will be displayed on the Events page, and which events will count as activity on the Overview page.

Things to consider

  • Site Stats is not a default tool. To use Site Stats to collect participation data for a course site, you must add it to your site using Site Setup; see Adding, editing, or removing tools.

  • When you add Site Stats to your site, even if it's the middle of the semester, you will have access to all data from the day the course site was first loaded. It will take one day for the data to load.

  • Site Stats are updated once per day, in the early morning.
