Using Oncourse CL, how do I set permissions for a wiki page?

Note: To complete the procedures in this document, you must be assigned a role having the necessary permissions. To determine your role, follow the directions in Participant roles. To view a list of permissions associated with a given role, see Permissions, roles, and tools. For a basic understanding of roles and permissions, see Permissions and roles: Overview.

Adding the Wiki tool to a course or project site creates an access controlled Home page that only site participants can reach. Site owners can set permissions for individual pages within the Wiki. Additionally, site owners can specify site permissions for the entire Wiki.

Setting page permissions

To set permissions for an individual wiki page:

  1. Near the top of the page, click Info.

  2. To change permissions for site participants, use the checkboxes next to "Enable/Disable on this page" as follows:

    • Select Read to grant participants read-only permissions.
    • Select Edit to allow participants to edit the page.
    • Uncheck the boxes to remove these permissions.

  3. To change permissions for the public (i.e., people outside your site), use the checkboxes next to "Public" as follows:

    • Select Read to grant the public read-only permissions.
    • Select Edit to allow the public to edit the page.
    • Uncheck the boxes to remove these permissions.

Note: If you are giving the public read or update permissions, you will need a public URL to share with them. To get the public URL, on your Wiki page click Info, and then, next to "Feeds", click Public View. Copy the URL from your browser's address field (this is the URL you will share with others).

  4. Click Save to apply your changes.

Note: Disabling the Admin permissions will cause errors when you try to access the wiki, and you will need to contact the Oncourse administrators to reset the permissions.

Setting site permissions

To set permissions for the site:

  1. Near the top of the page, click Info.

  2. Under the page permissions, to the right of the save button, click edit site permissions.

  3. Use the checkboxes to add or remove permissions by role. When you are finished, click Save.

Wiki permissions

The permissions available for the Wiki tool are as follows:

  • Create: Create a wiki page.
  • Read: View a wiki page.
  • Edit: Edit the contents of a wiki page.
  • Admin: Edit the permissions of a wiki page, and restore older versions of a wiki page.
  • Super Admin: All permissions
