In Windows Vista, how can I turn on the classic Windows menu bar?

Though the classic Windows menu bar (File, Edit, View, etc.) is not enabled by default in Windows Vista, you can view the menu bar by following these steps:

Note: These steps apply only to the default folder view for the Windows Vista operating system. Enabling classic menus will not affect the default view for Internet Explorer 7.0, Microsoft Office 2007, or any other software installed on the computer. For help enabling the menu bar in Internet Explorer 7.0, see In Internet Explorer 7.0, how can I enable the classic menu bar?

  1. From the Vista Start menu, select Control Panel.

  2. On the menu on the left, click Classic View.

  3. Double-click Folder Options.

  4. Select the View tab and check the option Always show menus.

  5. Click OK.
