Using Opera 8.5 or later, how do I set up IMAP to access Cyrus mail?
To set up Opera 8.5 or later to access your Cyrus mail account at Indiana University using IMAP:
- In Opera, from the
Toolsmenu, selectMail and chat accounts....
- Click
Yesif you see the following message: "You need to create an account before proceeding. Would you like to create one now?"
- Under "Select what kind of account you would like to create",
choose
IMAP, and clickNext >.
- Enter your name and email address, and click
Next >.Note: The "Organization" field is not a required field. If you see it, you may skip it.
- In the "Login name" and "Password" fields, enter your IU
Network ID username and passphrase, respectively. Click
Next >.
- In the "Incoming server" field, enter
imap.iu.edu. In the "Outgoing server" field, entermail-relay.iu.edu. ClickFinish.
Note: If Opera's attempt to connect to your email fails, clickCancelonce or twice to continue setting up the account.
- If Opera asks you to read through a tutorial, click
No.
- From the
Mailmenu, selectIMAP folders.
- In the window that appears, click
Account, and selectProperties....
- Select the
Serverstab.
- Under "Incoming IMAP server", check
Secure connection (TLS), and change the port number to 993.
- Under "Outgoing SMTP server", check
Secure connection (TLS), and leave the port at 25. Change the authentication method toAuto, and enter your Network ID username and passphrase again. ClickOK.
- To close the
Subscribe IMAP folderswindow, clickOKagain.
- To receive the contents of your inbox, click
Check/Send. Once this step is finished, you will need to download your folders.
- Click
MailandIMAP folders....
- A listing of all of your folders should now appear in the
window. Select the folders you'd like to download, and click
OK.Note: In Opera 9.2x, this step may not be necessary because Opera attempts to subscribe to all folders.
- To download the email in your folders, click
Check/Send.
Note: Depending on the speed of your Internet connection and the amount of mail in your email account, it could take several minutes to fully receive all your mail, especially if Opera is attempting to download all headers and messages from all folders. At the bottom of the screen on the left, Opera will display the progress of the messages.
