What should I do if I am having problems accessing course materials through E-Reserves or Ares?
At Indiana University, if you are having problems using your course's electronic reserves page (E-Reserves, or Ares at IUPUI), try the following:
- If you have forgotten your password, contact your instructor for
your course's password.
- Use a different web browser. Access problems may occur
when you are using Internet Explorer if you follow a link
to your course's electronic reserves page from within
Oncourse CL or OneStart. If you are using Internet
Explorer, try using an alternate browser, e.g.,
Firefox. Students with a valid IU Network ID can
download Firefox from IUware Online.
If you wish to use Internet Explorer, follow these steps to change your settings:
- In Internet Explorer, from the
Toolsmenu, selectInternet Options.... - Click the
Privacytab, and under "Settings", move the slider bar toMedium. - Click the
Sites...button. Under "Address of Web site:" typeindiana.edu, and then clickAllow. - Click
OKtwice to save your settings.
- In Internet Explorer, from the
- Try accessing your materials directly from the E-Reserves
search page, where you can search for your course by its number,
the department, or your instructor. To access your course's materials,
you will need a password from your instructor. Contact your instructor
if you do not have the password.
- If you are trying to reach your course page through a specific
URL, you may have an incorrect link. Try browsing to the appropriate
main portal at your campus:
- The regularly scheduled maintenance period for E-Reserves is
Friday-Saturday, midnight-noon. Try again after noon on Saturday.
- Check the status of E-Reserves on the IU network and system
notices web page. For more information, see How can I monitor the status of computer systems and services at IU? If the
E-Reserves system is down, try these alternative links on the backup
server:
Note: Recently updated course pages may be missing information because the backup server has not yet copied recently uploaded documents from the primary server. IUPUI's University Library maintains the backup server for Ares, which is not listed above. For Ares support, see At IUPUI, whom can I contact for Ares support?
