At IU, using Mac OS X with PPP, how can I get automatic authentication to work?
For security reasons, to access the extended services modem pools at Indiana University, you must enter your Network ID username and passphrase. If you do not want to be prompted each time, you will have to enter your username and passphrase in the Internet Connect PPP application in Mac OS X. To do so, follow the instructions below:
Note: If you enter this information, anyone who has access to your computer will be able to launch a PPP session and connect to the network.
- From the Apple menu, select
System Preferences....
- From the
Viewmenu, selectNetwork.
- In the
Networkpreferences window, make sure that the menu next to "Show:" or "Configure:" is set to the modem you're using.
- Click the
PPPtab. In the "Account Name:" and "Password:" fields, enter your Network ID username and passphrase. Then check the box next toSave password.
