At IUB, if I forget the administrator password for my Windows computer, what can I do?
If you forget the administrator password for your Windows computer, the Support Center's Carry-in Consulting service may be able to reset it.
For information on pricing, see At the Support Center walk-in location in Bloomington, what products and services are available for purchase?
To reset your administrator password, Support Center consultants must verify that you own the computer. Consultants can:
- Examine the sales receipt for the computer
- Check the computer's registration at Indiana University Bloomington
- Check the computer for a local account matching your name
If consultants cannot verify ownership, they cannot reset the administrator password; they can instead perform a clean installation of the operating system. Installation cost will be based on normal Carry-in Consulting fees.
