In Mac OS X Mail, how do I append other messages to the message I am currently composing?

In Mac OS X Mail, when you compose a new mail message or reply to or forward another message, you may choose to append one or more other messages to the current message. To do so, follow the steps below:

Composing a new message or forwarding a group of messages

  1. Before you begin composing your new message, you must first select the message or messages you wish to append to the new message. To select multiple messages, Shift-click to select a range of messages, or Cmd-click each message to group-select particular messages.

  2. From the File menu, select New Message to begin a new message. Then, from the Edit menu, select Append Selected Messages. Mail will insert all of the selected messages into the body of the new message.

Alternately, when you have selected the messages you wish to include, from the Message menu, select Forward or Forward Message. Mail will insert all the messages in the body of the message.

Replying to another message

When replying to a message, you may append another message into your response by following the instructions below:

  1. Begin your reply to the first message.

  2. From the Window menu, select the mailbox folder in which the message you wish to append is located.

  3. In the folder listing, select the message(s) you wish to append. Shift-click or Cmd-click to group-select a range of messages or several separate messages, respectively.

  4. From the Window menu, select your reply message (the name of the reply will usually begin with "Re:").

  5. Your reply message should now be the active window. From the Edit menu, select Append Selected Messages to append the message(s) you selected in step 3. Mail will append the message(s) below the original message in your reply.
