In Windows 2000, XP, and Vista, how do I find the MAC address of my network adapter?

Vista

In Windows Vista, to view the MAC address of your network adapter(s):

  1. From the Start menu, go to All Programs, open the Accessories folder, and select Command Prompt.

  2. At the command prompt, enter: ipconfig /all

The MAC address is the six pairs of hexadecimal numbers in the field labeled "Physical Address".

Windows 2000 and XP

Note: The Windows XP default desktop view and Start menu are different from the Windows Classic View (e.g., in Windows 2000). Therefore, navigating to certain items can be different. In the interest of broad applicability, most Knowledge Base instructions assume you are using Classic View. For information about switching your Windows XP default view to Classic View, see In Windows XP, how do I switch to the Windows Classic View, Classic theme, or Classic Control Panel?

In Windows 2000 and XP, to view the MAC address of your network adapter(s):

  1. From the Start menu, select Run... .

  2. In the "Open:" field, enter: cmd

This will open a command prompt.

  3. At the command prompt, enter: ipconfig /all

The MAC address is the six pairs of hexadecimal numbers in the field labeled "Physical Address".
