What are archived documents?

At IU, in OneStart, what is "My Bookmarks", and how do I use it?

About "My Bookmarks"

The "My Bookmarks" area in OneStart allows you to store the addresses of your favorite web pages; it is similar to the bookmarks or favorites features in your web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Firefox). However, unlike browser bookmarks or favorites, which are stored on your computer, OneStart bookmarks are mobile. By logging into OneStart and using "My Bookmarks", you can access your favorite pages from any computer with an Internet connection.

Using "My Bookmarks"

"My Bookmarks" is located in the Services tab.

To add your own bookmarks, click the manage bookmarks button, and then select Add Bookmark.

To access one of your bookmarked pages, click the bookmark. The selected site will launch in a new browser window.

Importing your bookmarks/favorites

Additionally, you can use the "Import Bookmarks" feature to move your bookmarks or favorites from your preferred web browser into your OneStart "My Bookmarks" content area.

To import your bookmarks/favorites, first you must export them from the browser; follow the appropriate steps below:

  • Internet Explorer

    1. Launch Internet Explorer. From the File menu, select Import and Export... .

    2. Click Next. In the resulting window, select Export Favorites, and then click Next.

    3. In the next window, you will see a folder list arranged in a tree structure. Select the folder at the top of the tree named Favorites, and then click Next.

    4. In the Export Favorites Destination window, select Export to a File or Address, and then click Browse... .

    5. Select a location to store your exported bookmark file. Any location will work; be sure to remember where you save the file.

    6. To advance, click Next, and then click Finish.
  • Firefox 2.x

    1. Launch Firefox. From the Bookmarks menu, select Organize Bookmarks... .

    2. In the new window, select File and then Export... .

    3. Name the file bookmark.htm , select a location to save the file, and then click Save; be sure to remember where you save the file.

    4. Close the Bookmarks for default window.

After you have exported your browser bookmarks/favorites, you can then import them into OneStart:

  1. Click the manage bookmarks button, and then select Import Bookmarks. Browse to where you saved the HTML file of your exported bookmarks.

  2. At this point you can choose where the bookmarks should be imported, and whether or not you want to replace the current bookmarks in that location. Click import to finish the process.
