In IUB and IUPUI campus housing, may I connect multiple computers to the campus network?

In Indiana University Bloomington and IUPUI campus housing, there is generally one data jack per resident. If you need to connect more than one computer to a single data jack, you will need to provide your own hub. The hub and its configuration must not violate any UITS policies, including IT-19, Policy on Extending the University Data Network.

You will also need to register the additional computers with the DHCP server. For more information, see At IUB and IUPUI, how do I register my computer?

Residential IT Services (RITS) staff are unable to provide either a hub or cables to connect your multiple computers. You can obtain these items from a local computer store. RITS consultants will help you configure the hub if necessary.

At Indiana University Bloomington and IUPUI, University Information Technology Services (UITS) is in the process of extending the new IU Secure wireless network beyond the common areas and into every student room of the residence halls. If IU Secure is not yet available in your IUB residence hall, you may operate a properly configured wireless access point (WAP) as an exception to the IT-19 Extending the University Data Network and IT-20 Wireless Networking policies from the University Information Policy Office (UIPO). Once IU Secure is available in your residence hall, this exception will no longer apply, and you will have to remove your WAP from the network. For details, see At IUB, if my residence hall does not yet have IU wireless network access, how do I configure a wireless access point?
