In Windows, how do I restore the speaker icon to the system tray?
In Windows, to make the speaker icon for controlling sound volume visible in the system tray, follow the appropriate steps below:
- From the
Startmenu, select eitherControl Panel, orSettingsand thenControl Panel.
- Double-click the correct icon for your operating system:
- In Windows XP, double-click
Sounds and Audio Devices. - In Windows Me and 2000, double-click
Sounds and Multimedia. - In Windows 95, 98, 98SE, and NT,
double-click
Multimedia.
- In Windows XP, double-click
- In Windows XP, click the
Volumetab. In the "Device Volume" section, find thePlace volume icon in the taskbarcheckbox and make sure it's checked.In other versions of Windows, look for the checkbox that says
Show volume control on the taskbarand make sure it is checked. This checkbox will appear in the following locations:- In Windows Me and 2000, it's near the bottom under "Sound Volume".
- In Windows 98 and 98SE, it's by itself near the bottom of the window.
- In Windows 95 and NT, it's usually near the top under "Playback".
- Click
OK.
