Wireless access at IU

Wireless locations

For a list of UITS-supported secure wireless sites at IUB and IUPUI, see the UITS wireless sites page.

At Indiana University Bloomington and IUPUI, University Information Technology Services (UITS) is in the process of extending the new IU Secure wireless network beyond the common areas and into every student room of the residence halls. If IU Secure is not yet available in your IUB residence hall, you may operate a properly configured wireless access point (WAP) as an exception to the IT-19 Extending the University Data Network and IT-20 Wireless Networking policies from the University Information Policy Office (UIPO). Once IU Secure is available in your residence hall, this exception will no longer apply, and you will have to remove your WAP from the network. For details, see At IUB, if my residence hall does not yet have IU wireless network access, how do I configure a wireless access point?

In Bloomington, you can also make a wireless connection off campus at any of Kiva Networking's wireless access KSpots, using your IU Network ID and a VPN connection to IU's network. For more, see At IUB, what is Kiva Everywhere?

Wireless for IU visitors

If you are visiting IU and need to access the Internet via your personal computer while on campus, you can get temporary wireless Internet access by obtaining a Network Access account. See At IUB and IUPUI, what is a Network Access account, and how do I get one?

Note: Indiana University and Purdue University allow researchers and visitors wireless access to their own networks from each campus. For details, see Wireless access at Indiana University and Purdue University.

If you have trouble

If you have trouble connecting to IU's wireless network, see Troubleshooting your on-campus wireless networking connection.
