In Mac OS X, how do I change the monitor resolution and color depth?

In Mac OS X, you can change the color bit depth and monitor resolution through the Displays pane of the System Preferences by following the steps below:

  1. From the Apple menu, select System Preferences... .

  2. In System Preferences, from the View menu, select Displays.

  3. Click the Display tab.

  4. Under "Resolutions:", click the resolution you prefer. From the menu next to "Colors:", choose the number of colors you want to display.

  5. Click the Color tab to select the display profile or calibrate the display.
