At IU, in Eudora for Mac OS or Mac OS X, how do I read my IU email using IMAP?

To configure Eudora in Mac OS or Mac OS X to read your Cyrus or Exchange mail at Indiana University using IMAP, follow the instructions below:
Note: If you have Mac OS 9 or earlier, you will not be able to use Eudora to access Cyrus. If you are using Mac OS X, you must have Eudora 6.2 or later to access Cyrus.
- Start Eudora. From the
Specialmenu, selectSettings.... If you are running Eudora for the first time, theSettingswindow may appear automatically. If so, skip to the next step.
- On the left side of the
Settingswindow, in the list of settings categories, click theGetting Startedicon.
- On the right side of the window, in the "Username:" field, enter
your Indiana University Network ID username (e.g.,
dvader).
- Next to "Mail Server:", enter the address for your IMAP server. At
IU, use the following:
- To access your Cyrus mail account, enter
imap.iu.edu. - To access your Exchange account, enter
imap.exchange.iu.edu.
- To access your Cyrus mail account, enter
- In the "Real Name:" field, enter your name.

In the "Outgoing" or "SMTP" server field, type:
mail-relay.iu.edu - Under "Return Address", enter your full IU email address.

- On the left side of the window, click the icon for the
Checking Mailsettings category. Then, on the right side of the window, next to "Mail Protocol:", click theIMAPbutton.
- Leave the "Location Prefix:" field blank.
Note: If you are using the Cyrus mail system, and you have trouble receiving mail after configuring your account according to these instructions, try putting
""(double quotes) in this field. - On the left side of the window, scroll through the list of
settings categories, and then click the
SSLicon.
- On the right side of the window, for both the pull-down menu next
to "SSL for SMTP:" and the one for "SSL for IMAP:", select
Required (Alternate Port). ClickOK.
