At IUB and IUPUI, how do I register my computer?
In many cases, you must register your computer's MAC address before you can connect to the Indiana University network. At IU Bloomington and IUPUI, this requirement extends to all campus and Greek housing, wireless computers and devices using the IU Wireless SSID (not the newer IU Secure SSID, which does not require VPN), and offices and meeting rooms. In these cases, until you register your computer or device, it will not be able to receive an IP address that will allow it to establish a connection to the Internet.

Registering your computer in campus and Greek housing
If you live in campus or Greek housing, run Get Connected. Running this software will begin an automatic configuration process during which you will be prompted to register your computer on the web.
Note: You can use the Get Connected web site to register your Windows Vista, Windows XP, or Mac OS X (10.3 and later) computer to use the Indiana University network in campus housing. Computers running Windows 2000 or Linux, as well as game consoles, must be manually registered. For help, contact the UITS Support Center at IU Bloomington by calling 812-855-6789 or at IUPUI by calling 317-274-4357. You cannot register earlier versions of Windows on the IU network in campus housing.
For more information, see What is Get Connected, and what does it do? If you run the Get Connected software and still cannot connect your computer to the IU network, see In IUB and IUPUI campus housing, where can I get assistance with my computer?
Note: If you live in any IUB or IUPUI residence hall or campus apartment, you must re-register your computer every fall semester. For more, see In IU campus housing, why do I have to re-register my computer in the fall?
At Indiana University Bloomington and IUPUI, University Information Technology Services (UITS) is in the process of extending the new IU Secure wireless network beyond the common areas and into every student room of the residence halls. If IU Secure is not yet available in your IUB residence hall, you may operate a properly configured wireless access point (WAP) as an exception to the IT-19 Extending the University Data Network and IT-20 Wireless Networking policies from the University Information Policy Office (UIPO). Once IU Secure is available in your residence hall, this exception will no longer apply, and you will have to remove your WAP from the network. For details, see At IUB, if my residence hall does not yet have IU wireless network access, how do I configure a wireless access point?
Registering your computer in other on-campus locations
At IUB, to register your computer if it's not located in campus housing, visit:
https://dhcp.indiana.edu/Note: Microsoft Internet Explorer for Mac does not work at the above site; you might use Safari.
At IUPUI, visit:
https://dhcp.iupui.edu/Click the link for IU users (do not log in using the
"Guest Username:" and "Guest Password:" fields). After you click the
link, you will be prompted to authenticate using your
Network ID. You will then see the registration page. Read
the user agreement and click I agree to proceed. When you
have completed the form, shut down your computer and wait for five
minutes. After five minutes, you can start your computer and access
the Internet.
For help or to report a problem with the network or IU computer services, contact the Support Center.
Registering your wireless computer on campus
You'll need to register your computer only if you plan to use the IU Wireless SSID on campus. (Note that the IU Secure SSID does not require either registration or the use of VPN.) Therefore, you will not be able to register from home, nor will you need to. Also, your registration will take effect at both IUB and IUPUI; thus, you need to register only once in order to use your laptop at either campus.
To successfully register the MAC address of your wireless computer, note the following:
- On the computer you wish to register, make sure you aren't connected to the network with a data cable.
- Do not make a VPN connection, because the registration site won't be able to see your MAC address if you do.
To register your computer, follow the steps above for registering an on-campus computer.
