How do I download and install software distributed from Apple's web site?

For recent software updates, visit Apple Downloads at:

http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/

For older updates or to browse Apple's software library, visit the following URLs:

http://www.info.apple.com/support/oldersoftwarelist.html http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/

Apple distributes software encoded in either MacBinary or BinHex format. This type of encoding requires that you have StuffIt Expander to decode and install software on your computer. If you have a current version of Mac OS X, simply double-click a file to open it. For more information about opening files, see the following Apple Knowledge Base article:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75098

To install the software, read the instructions provided with the download. In most cases, there will be an installer file included that will automatically install the program in the appropriate location on your computer.
