When using Outlook Express or Entourage as a POP client, how do I leave my mail on the server so I can read it from any computer?
Note: At Indiana University, UITS has discontinued POP mail in favor of IMAP. For more information on the POP and IMAP protocols, see At IU, why doesn't UITS support POP mail?
This document assumes you have already configured Outlook Express or Entourage as a POP mail client.
Windows
- From the
Toolsmenu, selectAccounts....
- Under the
Mailtab, highlight your account, and then click thePropertiesbutton.
- Click the
Advancedtab, and check the box that saysLeave a copy of Messages on Server.
- Click
OK, and then clickClose.
Mac OS and Mac OS X
Outlook Express 5 and Entourage
- From the
Toolsmenu, selectAccounts.
- In the
Accountswindow, click theMailtab.
- Highlight your account and click the
Editbutton.
- In the
Edit Accountwindow, click theOptionstab.
- Check the box that says
Leave a copy of each message on the server.
- Click the
OKbutton, and then close theAccountswindow.
Outlook Express 4
- From the
Editmenu, selectPreferences....
- Under "Accounts", click
E-mail, and then click theAdvanced...button.
- Check the box labeled
Leave a copy of messages on server.
- Click
OK, and thenOKagain.
