At IU, where can I find information about buying computer hardware and software?
Hardware
UITS has compiled a ComputerGuide to
assist Indiana University students, faculty, and staff in purchasing computers
for personal use. The ComputerGuide contains information about special
purchasing available from IU's negotiated agreements with vendors, and what
you might expect to pay for PCs, Macs, notebooks, and accessories. At IU
Bloomington, you can also visit the Computer Connection in IMU M074, call
812-855-2995, or send email to iubks@indiana.edu .
Most computer stores offer informational handouts about the equipment sold there. You can also purchase magazines, such as Computer Shopper, at bookstores and newsstands.
You can find other computer magazines on the web. Not all are written for people seeking purchase advice, but the web is still a good place to start looking for information. For example, visit the ZDnet Reviews page.
Software
IU negotiates licensing contracts with several software producers to make their products available to students, faculty, staff, and departments at reduced prices. You can download much of this software for free from IUware Online, or you may choose to purchase it on CD. For more information, see At IU, how can I get university-distributed software?
For more, see the License Agreements page.
