What are Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader?

Acrobat software from Adobe includes two product lines: the Acrobat 8 line offers tools for viewing, creating, and editing PDF (Portable Document Format) files, and the Acrobat Connect line offers tools for web conferencing.

Adobe Reader allows you to view, print, annotate, and digitally sign, but not edit or create, PDF files. You can download it for free from the web. IU students, faculty, and staff can obtain it via the IUware CD or IUware Online. Some web browsers, such as Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, let you open a PDF file with Adobe Reader in your current browser window.

Note: Prior to the release of version 6.0, Adobe Reader was named Acrobat Reader.

For more information about the Acrobat product lines, or to download Adobe Reader, see Adobe's Acrobat page.
