How can I get free access to the Internet?
Most of the nationwide free Internet service providers (ISPs) have gone out of business. The only remaining providers are Juno and NetZero; with free service from these providers, you are limited to 10 hours of access per month. When using this service, banner advertisements are constantly displayed on your screen. In effect, you pay for Internet access by viewing advertisements.
You can check the Juno and NetZero web pages for local dial-up numbers in Indiana. If your area has no local dial-up number, you are responsible for any long-distance charges incurred while using the service. Indiana University neither takes responsibility for, nor endorses, the use of these providers. This information is provided only on the chance it may fit your particular needs and circumstances. You may be able to find a more appropriate ISP by checking your local yellow pages.
For more information, click the Free ISP link on the Juno or
NetZero web sites. The FREE ISP link will not
appear if you are using a Macintosh, as Juno and NetZero do not offer
free access to Macintosh users.
For information regarding local free Internet service providers, try
searching the web with a search engine such as Google or Yahoo! using the terms free
Internet .
Note: Juno and NetZero will require that you download software to install on your computer. You should be able to download the required program on a campus computer and save the information to a flash drive or burn it to a CD. Additionally, you can contact the provider for other methods of receiving the software.
