In SAS, how do I convert data sets to a format LIMDEP can use?

LIMDEP can read data in ASCII text and spreadsheet formats. Accordingly, you need to convert data sets into a format that LIMDEP can read:

  1. Export your data to an ASCII or spreadsheet file using the EXPORT procedure: PROC EXPORT DATA= work.data1 OUTFILE= "c:\temp\data1.txt" DBMS=DLM REPLACE; RUN;

    This procedure generates an ASCII text file named data1.txt, delimited by a blank. SAS automatically inserts the list of variable names in that file's top line.

    To get an Excel file, use this procedure: PROC EXPORT DATA= work.data1 OUTFILE= "c:\temp\data1.txt" DBMS=EXCEL2000 REPLACE; RUN;

  2. Import the data file in LIMDEP. After launching LIMDEP, open a text/command document file and enter the following statement: READ;FILE=c:\temp\data1.txt;NOBS=10;NVAR=30;NAMES=1;$

    If you have an Excel file, use this statement:

    READ;FILE=c:\temp\data1.xls;FORMAT=XLS;NAMES=1;$

    Note: In the above examples, NOBS specifies the number of observations; NVAR indicates the number of variables to be imported from the data file; and NAMES is an option to specify the variable names or the number of lines to be used for variable names. You may not omit the  $ , which indicates the end of a statement.
