When I connect to IUB through a non-IU ISP, why can't I find computers in Microsoft domains?

Because of security issues with NetBIOS, Microsoft generally recommends blocking NetBIOS traffic from outside a local network. For more information, see Microsoft's security bulletin.

Indiana University Bloomington is currently following this recommendation. As a result, to browse the Microsoft Windows network from an outside Internet service provider (ISP), you must establish a VPN connection.
