At IU, what is the URL for my web page?

Institutional web pages

At Indiana University, institutional web pages, including department web sites, faculty and course web pages, and official student organization web sites, are hosted on Webserve. For more information, see The IU Webmaster Accounts information page.

The URL for an institutional home page directory is as below, where username is your group's username:

  http://www.indiana.edu/~username/ (for IUB)
  http://www.iupui.edu/~username/ (for IUPUI)
  http://www.iun.edu/~username/ (for IUN)
  http://www.iuk.edu/~username/ (for IUK)

In general, the URL for a file in the www directory is as below, where username is your group's username, and filename.html is the name of the file:

  http://www.indiana.edu/~username/filename.html (for IUB)
  http://www.iupui.edu/~username/filename.html (for IUPUI)
  http://www.iun.edu/~username/filename.html (for IUN)
  http://www.iuk.edu/~username/filename.html (for IUK)

In order for a UITS institutional web server to bring up your group's page with one of the URLs above, you must have a file in the web page directory named one of the following:

  • home.html
  • home.htm
  • index.html
  • index.htm
  • index.shtml
  • index.php
  • index.php4
  • index.phtml
  • index.cgi

Otherwise, you will need to specify the filename after the last slash.

Personal web pages

At IU, personal pages are stored on Mercury, and viewed at mypage.iu.edu. For more information, see At IU, what is Mypage, and how can I publish a web page there? If your home page is named home.html, the URL for your home page directory is as follows, where username is your username:

http://mypage.iu.edu/~username/

In general, the URL for a file in your www directory is as follows, where username is your username, and filename.html is the name of your file:

http://mypage.iu.edu/~username/filename.html
