On my LISTSERV list, how can I control where replies are sent?
The Reply-To keyword in the list header controls the information that
goes into the "Reply-To:" header in messages sent to a
LISTSERV list. By default, the value of this keyword is set
to Reply-To= List, Respect. The Respect part
of this value causes LISTSERV to preserve any "Reply-To:" field that
existed in the original posting.
Note: To complete the steps in this document, you will need to edit the list header; see On my LISTSERV list, how can I modify the list header?
Available options for the Reply-To keyword are as follows:
| First parameter | Result |
|---|---|
| List | Replies go to the list address. |
| Sender | Replies go to the original sender. |
| Both | Replies go to both the original sender and to the list. |
| None | No "Reply-to:" header is generated unless ",Respect" is specified and a "Reply-to:" header is present in the original posting, in which case replies are directed to wherever the "Reply-To:" tag points. |
| net-address | Replies are directed to the specified Internet address. |
| Second parameter | Result |
| Respect | The original "Reply to:" tag on the posting, if any, is kept. If no valid "Reply To:" tag exists in the posting, the value defined in the first parameter of this keyword is used. |
| Ignore | The original "Reply to:" tag on the posting, if any, is ignored and discarded, and the value defined in the first parameter of this keyword is used instead. LISTSERV will not generate a "Reply to:" tag if Reply To= None,Ignore. |
