In Mac OS or Mac OS X, how can I extract the sound from an audio CD track?

With iTunes for Mac OS or Mac OS X, you may extract audio tracks from CDs, and import them as MP3, AAC, AIFF, or WAV files to your iTunes Music Library. Follow these steps:

1. Start iTunes, and put the CD with the audio tracks you want into your drive.
   
   
2. If you want to change the format iTunes imports your tracks to, edit the iTunes Importing preferences (under the Edit or iTunes menu).
   
   
3. When the CD's track listing appears in iTunes, select the checkbox next to the tracks you want to import.
   
   
4. Click the Import button. iTunes will begin to import the tracks you selected and save them as music files inside your iTunes Music folder. Within iTunes, the tracks will appear in your Library listing.
   
   Note: The exact location of the iTunes Music folder depends on what version of Mac OS or Mac OS X and iTunes you're using. To reveal a track file, in iTunes Ctrl-click a track's listing after you've imported it, then, from the pop-up menu, select Show Song File.

Other utilities, such as QuickTime Pro, are available if you need to edit the contents of tracks you extract.
