At IU, if I already have some computing accounts, how do I get others?
To obtain additional computer accounts at Indiana University, you must have a Network ID username and passphrase. You will get a Network ID when you create your first UITS accounts. For more information, see How do I get my first computing accounts at IU?
Note: If you are a former student returning to IU after an absence (e.g., as a graduate student after having been an IU undergraduate), you might not be able to create accounts using the directions in this document. Instead, you should complete the Starter Kit for new students; this will create the needed accounts and associate them with your username. See How do I get my first computing accounts at IU?
Students, faculty, staff, and IU affiliates
You can create most UITS accounts through the Account Management Service (AMS). Follow the directions below:
- Go to the Account Management Service at: https://itaccounts.iu.edu/
- Select
Manage my IU computing accounts.Note: Only full-time faculty or staff members can request group and departmental accounts.
- If you are prompted to log into the Central Authentication
Service, enter your Network ID username and passphrase. If
not, skip to the next step.
- Click
create more accounts.
- Use the radio buttons to select the account you want to create,
and then click
Create Account.
Note: Requests for certain IU accounts require further information to demonstrate academic need or eligibility. Failure to provide such information may lead to a delay or a failure in creating the desired account.
If an account that you want is not listed, contact your campus computing Support Center.
Allow 10 to 15 minutes to go through the process of creating your accounts. Your AMS session will time out if you leave it inactive for more than 5 consecutive minutes during the account creation process, and you will have to start over.
Research accounts
Apply for accounts on IU's research systems Big Red, Libra, or Quarry using the AMS as described above. To learn more about the research systems, including who is eligible to use them, visit the High Performance Systems page.
Groups, organizations, and departments
Organizational and departmental accounts at IU are also managed through the AMS, and the sponsoring faculty or staff member must manage these accounts. To get additional accounts for your organization, follow the directions below:
