ARCHIVED: In Mac OS or Mac OS X, how do I replace one icon with another?
To replace one icon with another in Mac OS or Mac OS X, you will need to manipulate two icons: the icon that you want to change and the replacement icon. Follow the steps below:
- Click the replacement icon, then press
Cmd-i.
- The replacement icon will then appear in the top left of the
resulting window. Click it and a square will appear around it.
- Press
Cmd-c. This will copy the icon to the Clipboard.
- Close the window in which the replacement icon appeared, and click
the icon that you want to change.
- Press
Cmd-iand in the resulting window, click the icon that you want to change.
- Press
Cmd-v. The replacement icon will be substituted for the old icon.
Note: You cannot change some icons (e.g., the
Trash icon) in this fashion. A number of commercial and
shareware utilities are available to change these icons.
